What it means to be an Independent Baptist Church
As an independent Baptist church, we are not affiliated with any particular Baptist denomination or ruling body. Because of this we can support our own missionaries, select our own leaders, and support institutions that believe as we believe. In short, our church answers to the headship of Jesus Christ rather than a denominational body. There are currently more than 10,000 independent Baptist churches throughout the world.
What should I expect if I visit?
We understand that the majority of people are hesitant to enter unfamiliar surroundings. Church, for the majority of Australians, is an unfamiliar surrounding. When you attend Bible Baptist the first thing you should expect is a warm and friendly welcome. Visitors are welcome at any of our weekly services.
A church, by nature, should consist of people in every stage of life. Our congregation is made of up everyday people. There are young families and there are grandparents. There are babies and there are senior citizens. We have professional people, small business owners, factory workers, bankers, miners, stay-at-home mums and so on. We have people from all walks of life who all meet for one purpose: to bring glory to God through their lives.
Because our purpose is to bring glory to God, our services are not designed around the latest fads or cultural trends, nor have we designed our services around the tastes of a certain demographic. When we meet we basically do two main things: we start with a time of singing and then this is followed by a time of preaching from the Bible. We choose to sing hymns, and we do so in a lively fashion. We find the hymns to hold a greater depth of Christianity than a lot of other Christian music, The most important part of our services is the preaching time. As a church, and as individuals, we strive to be men and women of the Bible, and as a result each service consists of a sermon from the Bible. Usually this will be done by the pastor, but on occasion the associate pastor or a visiting speaker will preach. During the service there will be an offering (passing of the plate), but there is no requirement to participate as it is really done for the members. Each service lasts from about an hour to an hour and a half and you do not have to leave your seat during that time.
